Welcome to the Ennis Taekwon-Do School web page. We teach Taekwon-Do as founded, taught and developed by General Choi Hong Hi, IX Degree.

Instructors, Mr. Kevin Kinsella VI Dan, Ms Anne-Marie Kinsella V Dan, Mr Michael Clune III Dan and Mr Darren Rigney III Dan are all ITF Certified Black Belts, Garda vetted, 1st Aid and Child Protection certified and also hold Level 1 qualifications from the Irish Sports Council.


Classes are held in the Ennis National school and cater for children, teens and adults.

As can be seen from the photo over 90 students, parents and friends took part in our Annual Sponsored walk on the 21st June.

Despite the wet conditions, nobody complained and everybody completed the task. 

A huge thanks to all who helped to make this another successful event.

The proceeds will be totted up later and presented in October to the Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin




Congratulations to Ennis instructor, Anne-Marie Kinsella who has recently been promoted to 6th Dan Black belt.                                                                                  

Anne Marie has been training since 1989 is now the highest ranked female in the Irish Taekwon-Do Association.

The grading took place in Citywest Hotel  Dublin under Grandmaster Willem Bos 9th Dan and Grandmaster Ung Kim Lan 9th Dan. 





The ITA Dublin Open took place on the 16th & 17th April in the National Basketball Arena, Dublin. The tournament was attended by a record number of participants with almost 750 competitors from Ireland, England and Scotland taking part in the two day event.  Pictured below are competitors from Ennis TKD

We are delighted to announce that Mr. Darren Rigney 3rd Dan has accepted the position of Assistant Instructor with Ennis TKD.

Mr. Rigney has been training with us for 17 years and has represented the school successfully in many tournaments and seminars

We congratulate him and are really looking forward to working with him in his new role.

The Irish Taekwon-Do Association held it’s winter blackbelt grading on the weekend of the 5th & 6th December in Co. Clare.

48 candidates were successfully promoted on the weekend under the ITA examiners panel, made up of Masters and international instructors from around the country.

Candidates were tested on all aspects of Taekwon-Do including hand & foot techniques, patterns, step-sparring, free sparring, special technique, breaking, self defence and theory.

The Saturday was for candidates testing for 2nd – 4th degree and took place in the Quin Community Centre. Twelve candidate were promoted to 2nd Dan, three candidates promoted to 3rd Dan, while two candidates were promoted to the grade of 4th Degree Blackbelt.

On Sunday, the grading for candidates testing for 1st degree Blackbelt took place on the Sunday in Ennis National School. This is a big milestone in the career of any Taekwon-Do student and 31 new blackbelts were awarded to students from around the country who met the standard required.


Among those promoted were Ennis TKD students, Aodha Marrinan and Ryan Kelly who promoted to 2nd Dan, also Doireann Kinsella promoted to 1st Dan.  Congratulations to you all!



A very successful ITA national technical seminar took place in Ennis National School, Co. Clare on Sunday September 27th.

The event was attended by over 90 ITA members green belt and above including some of the ITA masters (Master Delea and Master Forde).               

The ITA Technical committee of Master Wheatley, Mr Jones, Mr Ryan and Mr Looi worked tirelessly in sharing their knowledge over an action packed and informative 6 hours. The seminar included all 24 patterns, step sparring, free sparring, kicking, and conditioning exercises and routines and mobility work. The feedback from participants was very positive and we are already looking forward to the next seminar, which takes place in Mallow, Co. Cork on November 1st.




Congratulations to all the students who were successful at our recent grading on the 28th June. 

All the hard training and preparation was worth it!!




Thank you to everybody who participated in our annual walk on June 21st in aid of the Childrens Hospital Crumlin. About  100 students, parents, friends and instructors  from Ennis, Quin, Kilmihil, Barefield, Ballyea and Inagh combined to make this  a very enjoyable and successful event.

Proceeds will be presented to the Hospital representative, Gerry Culley after the summer holidays.

The ITA Dublin Open took place on the weekend of the 28th & 29th March in the National Basketball Arena, Tallaght.

639 competitors from several Irish Associations, Germany, Switzerland, Albania & Scotland competed over two days across seven rings in patterns, sparring, special technique & breaking.  Well done to all the Ennis students who participated, especially Cian Hayes 3rd Patterns, Amr Sayed 2nd Sparring and Aodha Marrinan 2nd Sparring, 2nd Patterns and 2nd Special Technique.











Congratulations to all our students who were promoted at our recent Kup Grading.  Well done to all, the hard work and preparation was worth it.





The Irish Taekwon-Do Association hosted the 15th Cork Open Championships in the Neptune Stadium, Cork on the weekend of the      14th & 15th February. The tournament was made up of 614 competitors from around the country including many experienced international competitors and World & European champions.  


15 Students from Ennis TKD participated successfully over the two days, taking home 11 medals. More lost out narrowly in the playoffs for third place. Congratulations to all.

Ennis student Aodha Marrinan 1st Dan recently participated in the Dutch Open as part of the Quin Taekwon-Do team.

630 competitors from 18 Countries took part. It was a very successful trip for the team who brought home an impressive 3 trophies, one gold, one silver and one bronze.

Aodha just missed a bronze in sparring, losing narrowly in the 3rd place playoff.

Thanks to Mr. Ryan for coaching Aodha and giving her this opportunity to gain such valuable experience.



The Annual General Meeting of the Irish Taekwon-Do Association, the National Association for ITF Taekwon-Do in Ireland, took place in the Horse & Jockey Hotel, Co. Tipperary on Sunday the 11th January and was attended by 42 instructors from around the country.

2014 was a very successful year which saw the expansion of the association, record numbers in attendance at tournaments and more success at an international level for the Irish National team.
